Hemp oil vs. CBD - what's the difference? Learn more.

Hemp is increasing in popularity by leaps and bounds. There are hemp products on grocery store shelves, in vitamins departments, and on websites across the internet. One common product you may see is hemp seed oil, commonly referred to as hemp oil. Hemp oil offers health claims that seem very similar to CBD products. Are they the same? No. These two products contain very different ingredients, so it’s important to educate yourself about their differences. So when it comes to hemp oil vs CBD, what’s the difference?

Hemp Oil Uses & Benefits

Hemp oil, or hemp seed oil, are terms that are generally used to describe an oil that is made by pressing the seeds from a hemp plant. This method is very similar to how olive oil or other cooking oils are made.

Hemp oil does not contain any CBD or other cannabinoids. These cannabinoids are mainly present in the flowers and leaves of hemp and cannabis plants, with some trace amounts in the stalk as well.

However, hemp seed oil is very nutritious in its own way. This is mainly due to the high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), also known as essential fatty acids. Because of these high levels, hemp oil has a healthy ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, which health experts agree is ideal for human health benefits. This is like cod liver oil, which contains a similar fatty acid profile.

Consuming healthy oils with this fatty acid profile can provide numbers health benefits. These include healthy skin, lower blood pressure, improved heart health, reduced inflammation, and pain relief.

Hemp oil can be eaten or applied topically. If eaten, it should ideally be consumed uncooked since the PUFAs can degrade with heat. For this reason, it is wonderful to use in salad dressings, in smoothies, and in other circumstances where it won’t be heated. It should also be stored cold in a refrigerator.

If used topically, be sure to test a small amount on your skin to ensure you don’t have a negative reaction.

The Benefits of CBD and Other Cannabinoids

As previously mentioned, CBD and other cannabinoids are only found in the plant material of hemp, and especially in the flowers. That is why we call our products Hemp Flower Infusions. At Danodan, we only use whole organic hemp flowers to make our infusions. By doing this, we are able to extract the highest amount and widest array of hemp cannabinoids. These include CBD, CBG, CBC, CBN, and THC (in very low levels). Hemp oil vs. CBD - what's the difference? Learn more.

This variety of cannabinoids is what makes our product full spectrum. Full-spectrum CBD products deliver the greatest benefits and effects. This is because the cannabinoids work together, providing what researchers call The Entourage Effect. While researchers continue to learn how the Entourage Effect works, they know that all cannabinoids support our endocannabinoid system in different and complementary ways. For this reason, having the full spectrum helps achieve optimal results.

Conversely, some products may only contain CBD but not any other cannabinoids. These products are called isolates, because they use complex industrial processes to extract and isolate the CBD from the other natural compounds. While isolates may be inexpensive, they also lack the benefits of the Entourage Effect. For this reason, many believe that isolates are much less effective than full-spectrum CBD products like Danodan Hemp Flower Infusions.

To use an analogy, think of CBD products like a sports team. Different players play different positions, and this contributes to the strength of the team. You wouldn’t want a football team with only quarterbacks, or a soccer team with only goalies, would you?

Hemp Oil vs CBD – What’s the difference?

As we’ve explained, hemp oil and CBD have very different functions. So, the next time you’re shopping for a quality CBD product, be sure to pay close attention to the label to ensure you’re getting what you want.

Ingredients: Look for ingredients like hemp flower, full-extract hemp oil, and hemp cannabinoids on the label. Ingredients like hemp seed means it won’t be CBD-rich.

Claims: Outrageous health claims should always be a red flag. Also, lots of attention on essential fatty acids, ALA, EPA, and/or DHA means it’s probably hemp seed oil.

THC: When looking for a true full-spectrum CBD product, make sure it has a legitimate disclaimer about THC content, including that it is below the Federal level of 0.3%. All Danodan Hemp Flower Infusions contain THC below the Federally required limit.

If you are seeking the maximum health benefits of CBD and other hemp cannabinoids, you’ll want to choose a full-spectrum CBD product like Danodan Hemp Flower Infusions. These infusions deliver the widest array of cannabinoids for optimal effectiveness.

Hemp oil, on the other hand, provides other health benefits. Made from the seeds of the hemp plant, hemp oil contains essential fatty acids that support many health outcomes. For this reason, hemp oil is also a great product for your personal health support.

However, don’t be fooled – hemp oil does not contain CBD or other cannabinoids. If that is what you seek, make sure you choose quality full-spectrum products like our certified organic hemp flower infusions.
