In some of our new Organic Hemp Flower Infusions, we have added a new ingredient: organic sunflower lecithin. Where is it from, and what is its purpose? Let’s discuss organic sunflower lecithin benefits and why this small ingredient can be so beneficial.
Why Danodan Contains Organic Sunflower Lecithin
We now add a very small amount of organic sunflower lecithin to our Moderate and Enhanced products. In these products, it serves as an emulsifier. An emulsifier is a substance that helps stabilize a solution. This helps prevent the different parts of our products from separating.
For our Moderate and Enhanced products, the organic lecithin ensures that our base infusion of organic vegetable glycerin and organic hemp flower stays mixed with the organic full-extract hemp oil that we use to achieve higher potencies.
Previously, our products instructed the user to shake them before use, because it was possible for the different ingredients to slightly separate from one another.
By adding organic sunflower lecithin, we have removed the need to shake our hemp flower infusions before use. This makes them easier to use and more uniform and consistent.
We still recommend a gentle swirl before each use, just for fun. But the addition of organic sunflower lecithin ensures that you get a consistent serving every time!
How Organic Sunflower Lecithin is Made
Sunflower lecithin is a natural ingredient that can be extracted from many parts of the sunflower plant. In the case of our sunflower lecithin, it is extracted from organic sunflower seeds.
Extracting lecithin from sunflower seeds is a very gentle and simple process not too different from pressing olive oil. Dried sunflower seeds are separated into three parts: oil, gum, and solids. The gum is then processed through a cold-press system to make sunflower lecithin.
There are other types of lecithin that you may see on different food and body care products, most commonly egg and soy lecithin. Both of these are very different from sunflower lecithin.
Egg lecithin is not vegan, since it is derived from eggs. Also, eggs are a common allergen for many people. For these reasons, we did not choose egg lecithin.
Soy lecithin is even worse. Extracting soy lecithin requires harsh chemicals, while sunflower lecithin does not; it uses a very gentle, natural process.
Also, soy lecithin is often produced using genetically modified soybeans. Our sunflower lecithin is certified organic, meaning that it cannot contain any GMOs.
Finally, many people have an allergy to soy, and soy is considered a Top 8 food allergen. Sunflower, on the other hand, has a much lower risk of allergic reactions.
What Are Other Organic Sunflower Lecithin Benefits?
Lecithin is actually a natural substance that is found in every cell in our body where it helps maintain cell integrity.
Sunflower lecithin can be taken as a supplement, with many documented health benefits. It can come in liquid, powder, capsules, and granule form.
The most well-known use for lecithin is helping improve cholesterol levels. Lecithin can help increase “good” HDL cholesterol and decrease “bad” LDL and VLDL cholesterol.
Other sunflower lecithin benefits include:
- Improved digestive health
- Aids breastfeeding, especially for mothers with plugged ducts
- Supports skin health
- Increases brain function
Benefits abound!
As we’ve learned, there are numerous organic sunflower lecithin benefits.
Organic sunflower lecithin is produced in a gentle, natural way. It is also vegan, non-GMO, and has a much lower risk of allergic reaction than other types of lecithin, like soy and egg.
In Danodan products, it helps our glycerin-based hemp flower infusion stay perfectly mixed with our full-extract hemp oil. This is only used in our Moderate and Enhanced products, as our Gentle products don’t contain full-extract hemp oil.
Additionally, sunflower lecithin can be taken as a supplement with many other health benefits.
So while it may serve a very simple, small purpose in our organic hemp flower infusions, it’s great to know that organic sunflower lecithin has many benefits of its own!
