The science of hemp and CBD progresses quickly. With it, we are learning a lot about how it affects us. Still, some questions are trickier than others. One of those is: how long does CBD stay in your system?

There are many factors that influence how long CBD stays in your system. Therefore, the answer to this question is different for everyone. Also, you may notice that many of these answers overlap with our previous post,  “How long does CBD last?” For many reasons, these two situations are very closely related.

So let’s take a look at the factors that influence how long CBD stays in your system.Woman opens Danodan single-serve CBD packet for her coffee

How much you take per dose

As with any drug, the amount you take will influence how long the effects last. Generally speaking, larger doses will stay in your system for a longer period of time. However, even that duration can vary greatly.

How you take your dose

When and how you take CBD, including taking it with or without food, has a big effect. If taken on an empty stomach, your Danodan will likely be metabolized quickly. Take it with food, and it will stay in your system longer.

Additionally, if you take Danodan with food, some of it may be stored away. CBD and other hemp cannabinoids are stored in fat cells. Fat cells are typically created when we have an excess of calories in our system. Calories are energy, and if we don’t need all that energy right then, we save it for later!

Therefore, if you consume CBD with an especially large meal, it is likely that some will be stored away. However, the amount that is stored will likely be very small, and you will still feel the beneficial effects of your dose. Later, when your body goes into fat-burning mode, that stored CBD will be re-released into your bloodstream and metabolized. You may notice very subtle effects at that time as well.

Other variables to consider

Personal factors like your body mass index (BMI), metabolic rate, and hydration level will influence how long CBD stays in your system.

Of course, all of these factors are modifiable through lifestyle behaviors. Drinking plenty of water and staying active will help your body utilize your CBD more effectively. Daily maintenance doses to support your endocannabinoid system will likely be more effective with these conditions as well.

Not only will these lifestyle behaviors help you get more out of your CBD, but they may also be supportive of whatever symptoms you are dealing with. Stress, anxiety, sleep, immunity, and much more are all helped by regular exercise and proper hydration. And some Danodan can always help with your exercise recovery as well!

So, how long does CBD stay in your system?

Taking all of these factors into account, there is a lot of variation. It is thought that CBD can stay in your system for anywhere from 6 hours to several weeks. However, it is highly unlikely that you would feel the effects of the CBD for that entire time. This time is heavily influenced by all of the factors discussed above.

Of course, there is nothing harmful about CBD being stored in your body. And when your stores are released, the CBD will provide support for your endocannabinoid system then.
