Dano-Dosing Your Pet (and meet Gus!)

By December 12, 2019 No Comments

One of the fastest-growing sectors of the CBD market is its use for pets. There are dozens of pet-focused CBD products out there, but do they work, and for what purposes? How much should you give your furriest family member? Learn how therapeutic hemp CBD can be an effective remedy for your pet!

Gus’ Story

In September of 2018, my partner and I got Gus, an eight week-old miniature golden doodle puppy. Say what you want about the trendiness of doodles, he’s the best dog in the world…but that’s just my opinion.

Then last March, when he was about eight months old, the dreaded time came: Gus needed to get neutered. After a successful procedure, Gus would have to spend the next two weeks wearing the dreaded Cone of Shame.

After the procedure, the vet gave us a prescription for trazodone, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI, similar to Zoloft, Prozac, and other antidepressants. We were told that the trazodone would help keep Gus mildly sedated so he wouldn’t unleash that famous puppy energy and potentially loosening his stitches, which could bring him back to square one on the recovery path. We were also warned that the trazodone, like most (if not all) pharmaceuticals, carried a long list of potential side-effects, including dizziness, nervousness, headache, fatigue, dry mouth, and many, many others.

After just a couple doses of trazodone, we noticed that it really affected Gus, and not entirely in a good way. He seemed aware of his drugged state. When he would try to walk around he would stumble a little, bump into things, and act disoriented. He would also have moments of heavy panting and dry mouth. Overall, he seemed annoyed by his state when on trazodone.

Gus, Meet Danodan

We decided to buy a one-ounce bottle of our 90mg CBD infusion and see if it would work for Gus, hoping it would be a less “druggy” alternative. I had only mild experience with Danodan at that point, but I knew the principle behind the brand. I felt confident that it would be the best option for our recovering puppy.

Now we had to decide how much to give him. Standard guidelines for CBD dosing in pets vary A LOT. On average, guidelines state that you should give anywhere from 1-5mg of CBD per 10lbs of body weight, which is a very big range. For 15lb. Gus, we calculated we could give him anywhere between 1.5-7.5mg CBD per dose. We decided to be cautious and give Gus 1.5mg, or one-half dropper, for his first dose.

Within 15 minutes, the Danodan was definitely doing its job. Gus just seemed so much more relaxed than when he was on trazodone. He was mellow and cuddly, not disoriented and stumbly. It was obvious that his demeanor was more complacent and less confused. It was very evident that his state was the result of a natural remedy, as opposed to some hardcore pharmaceutical.

We were so amazed and impressed by his tolerance and reaction to the Danodan, that we continued alternating it with trazodone for the remainder of his recovery. Looking back, I don’t know why we even continued the trazodone. Maybe just because we had paid for it and felt some odd obligation to continue using it? If we had to do it over again, we would stick with the Danodan and avoid the trazodone. And now we know that if we ever need a natural alternative for helping Gus in the future, Danodan will be there.

He is seriously the cutest, right?

How could my pet benefit from Danodan Therapeutic Hemp CBD?

Our full-spectrum therapeutic hemp infusion will work very similarly on dogs and cats as it would on humans, so many of the same applications are viable. For example, our products can be ideal to support your furry lifemate’s recovery from injury, ease some joint pain, or simply relieve occasional anxiety. Just be sure to take your pet’s size into account when deciding on a dose.

Here are some Danodan pet dosage recommendations:

We at Danodan believe that our full-spectrum, whole flower infusion possess more synergistic activity than many of the other CBD isolates on the market. This means that you can use a smaller dose of our products to often achieve the same effect. So consider starting with a small dose and increase it over time if you feel your pet needs more relief. For short-term therapy, our 90mg bottle may be sufficient, but for longer treatments, consider our 360mg 4oz. bottle for pets!

Please share your pet success stories with us, we’d love to hear about how Danodan is making your pet’s life better!

In health,

Andrew (& Gus)
